Description
This is a former factory building located approximately 30 meters northeast of Wallsuches House, dating from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. It was built for the Wallsuches Bleach Works, which was established in 1775 and is noted as one of the first chemical bleach works in the country. The building features dressed stone and brick construction with a hipped slate roof. It is two storeys high and has five bays, with the second and fourth bays projecting slightly forward. The first storey is made of brick, topped with a frieze and cornice. The windows have narrow lintels and are sashed with glazing bars, although the window in the second bay of the first floor is blind. There are round-headed entrances with imposts and keys in the second and fourth bays; the entrance in the second bay is blocked, while the fourth bay has a doorcase and fanlight with a 20th-century door. This building is a rare and early example of a bleach works structure.
