Description
Ridgmont House Masonic Hall is a house that has been converted into a Masonic Hall, built in the early 19th century. It features a stucco exterior with stone dressings and a hipped stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high and has eight bays, with a three-bay center that projects forward under a pediment. There are sill bands and a top cornice, and the windows have plain surrounds and are sash style with glazing bars and horns. The central first-floor window is set in a recess and has consoles supporting the top cornice, with a round recess in the pediment above. The entrance includes a semi-circular porch supported by two Doric columns and two demi-columns, leading to a six-panel door. There are three cross-axial stacks. The right side of the building has four bays that are similar in style. The rear features a three-bay bow on the left end and an entrance with an inscription above, which includes four lines from "The Task" by William Cowper, possibly indicating a former conservatory. Inside, there is a staircase with iron balusters and four six-panel doors. The house was built for Thomas Ridgway, one of the founders of Wallsuches Bleach Works.
