Description

Hallowsgate Farmhouse is an early to mid-19th century farmhouse, with possible earlier origins and later alterations. The farmhouse is built of roughcast brick on an ashlar plinth, with a Welsh slate roof and one gable and one ridge brick chimney. It has an L-shaped plan. The south front is two storeys high and four bays wide, with a simple cornice. The small-pane windows are set within plain sashes and have flat, wedged stone heads and stone sills. A 20th-century open wooden gabled porch, on a stone base, stands in the second bay, leading to a four-panelled door at the rear. A plaque above the door reads "WMT) HR) Trustees PWH". A rear range, built in English garden wall bond brick, features three-light casements with glazing bars. The interior was not inspected, but the rear range is reported to contain a cruck truss. Historically, the farm was owned and managed by The Bluecoat school in Chester.
