Description
The wall, railings, and gates to St Mary's Churchyard and Rectory in Handbridge were built in 1887 by F.B. Wade, funded by the first Duke of Westminster. The structure features a rock-faced sandstone wall that is approximately 1 meter high, with hollow-chamfered copings and gabled bay-piers that include niches. There are cross-gabled gate piers leading to three gateways for the church and one for the Rectory. The wrought-iron railings on the walls have "barleysugar" bars and ornamental quatrefoil panels with double ribs, topped with foliar scrollwork. The site includes ornate wrought-iron gates: two for pedestrians and one for carriages leading to the churchyard, as well as one for carriages to the Rectory drive.
