Description

This is a row of five cottages, now converted into four, built in 1874 in the style of Edward Hodkinson for BB Foulkes of the Golden Eagle Public House on Castle Street. The cottages are constructed of orange-brown brick with blue brick patterning and feature a grey slate roof that runs parallel to the front. The building is two storeys high, with each of the formerly five cottages, including No. 11 which consists of two, having one bay.

The doors are six panels with incised mouldings on the rails and muntins, chamfered reveals, and segmental arches above both doors and windows. The stone sills are painted, and the windows include three-pane sashes, with one tripartite window and the others dual, featuring leaded upper panes. There is a one-course blue brick band that rises to an apex over the east door.

On the second storey, corbelled brick headers support a one-course band, with two-pane sashes that have leaded upper panes; the north bay and No. 13 have tripartite windows, while the others are dual. A band of diapering is present between the windows, except for No. 13. The north bay has a corbelled gablet, and No. 13 features a full-width front gable. The eaves are plain, and there are two shaped brick ridge chimneys, one similar chimney that has been altered, and a rebuilt chimney on No. 17. The north gable end is simple, and the rear of the building is not visible. The interiors have not been inspected.
