Description
Number 16 West Wing is a warehouse, now functioning as an office, located on Castle Street in Chester. It was likely built in the 18th century and features a rendered exterior with a grey slate roof that has a gable at the front. The building has a cellar and three storeys, presenting a symmetrical façade.
The front is lined with projecting quoins on both the east and west sides, which are of equal width. There are floor bands marking the second and third storeys. The cellar has a low opening that has been narrowed, with the original width indicated by the length of the timber lintel above.
The central loading bay is notable for its double doors on each storey, which are divided and now feature framed and boarded lower leaves with glazed upper leaves; the first and second storeys have eight panes, while the third storey has four panes. Each pair of loading doors is flanked by recessed sashes, with 15 panes on the first storey, 20 panes on the second storey, and four panes on the third storey, all set on boldly projecting stone sills. The gable is finished with painted brick coping. The interior could not be inspected.
