Description
The tombchest of William and Elizabeth Hilton is located 17 meters west of the west door of the Church of St Andrew in Tarvin. It was erected in 1782 at the expense of John Hilton. The tombchest is made of buff sandstone and features a moulded plinth. The long sides have raised rectangular, inscribed panels with nicked corners, and there are vertical bands of cyma-moulding on either side. The short sides display large elliptical medallions on the west and an inscription recording the erection on the east, both flanked by bands of vertical rilling. The top slab is plain and has a moulded cornice.
