Description
Willow Bank Farmhouse is a circa 1820 brick farmhouse situated on Bentley’s Farm Lane in Higher Whitley. The building is constructed of brown brick with a wide-span gabled grey slate roof. It is two storeys high with three windows facing the front. The front door consists of six fielded panels set within a doorcase featuring attached Tuscan columns and a plain fanlight. The windows are 16-pane recessed sashes, each with a flat gauged-brick arch and projecting stone sills. A moulded cornice runs along the top of the front elevation. The end gables feature round-arched windows to the attic, with the left-hand window having been altered. A tall round-arched stair window is located at the rear, along with a six-panelled door. A further six-panelled door is set into the left gable-end. Two flush chimneys are present on the right gable, and one is situated in front of the ridge on the left gable.
The interior features a diagonal-boarded inner face to the front door, six-panelled doors throughout, and a broad-board door leading to a rear wing. A double-depth plan is evident, with a round archway opening from the hall. The open-string dogleg staircase has shaped brackets and stick balusters, culminating in a curtail.
