Description
Henbury Smithy consists of two cottages that were formerly a smithy and a blacksmith's cottage, dating from the mid to late 18th century. The building is constructed of red English garden wall bond brick and has a slate roof. It stands two storeys tall with a slightly projecting brick plinth at the front. The facade features three bays with four-centered arches that were originally part of the smithy but are now bricked up, replaced by 2-light casement windows.
At the corners and between the bays, there are pilasters that act as clasping buttresses, topped with moulded brick capitals at the level of the first-floor window sills. Sunken arched panels are located between these pilasters. The left cottage section includes a cambered-headed doorway on the right and a 2-light casement window on the left, with a similar 2-light casement window on the first floor. All the windows are 20th-century replacements. The two right-hand smithy arches show signs of having been rebuilt, and there is a 20th-century addition at the rear.
