Description
The Stone House is a former farmhouse, now a house, that dates back to 1634 and has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from ashlar buff sandstone with a Kerridge stone-slate roof and features three brick chimneys. The house has an H-plan layout and a main entrance leading into the hall. It is two stories high with a four-bay front. The building has a chamfered plinth and a projecting moulded bond at the first floor level. The end bays slightly project forward and feature 19th-century tall broad three-light stone mullions below, with casements in gables that were originally timber framed but are now stuccoed. The right bay has a plaque in a moulded surround at the first floor that reads E*M IxF. To the left of the center, there is a seven-light rebated chamfered stone mullioned and transomed window, and to the right, a double rebated doorcase with a 20th-century six-panelled door. Above this doorcase is a two-light casement in a gabled half dormer. Another plaque on the first floor band reads JMV 1634, accompanied by a star and double crosses. There are also some brick extensions at the rear of the house.
