Description
Nos. 50, 52, and 54 on Chestergate in Macclesfield are a row of three shops that may have originally been a single dwelling. They date back to the 17th century, although the facade was altered later. The buildings have a timber frame on the inside, while the street-facing side is rendered over brick and features mock timbering added around 1900. The roof is made of stone flags and is low with two storeys. The front has three windows, with early 20th-century shop fronts that have plain architraves on the ground floor. Above, there are two three-light casements and a four-pane sash window on the first floor, all beneath gabled dormers that have finials on the bargeboards. The roof overhangs are supported by brackets, and there are axial and right-hand gable stacks.
