Description
19 King Edward Street is a house that was converted into offices around 1750, with extensions added in 1927. The building is constructed of brick and has a Welsh slate roof. The original house is three stories high and features a five-window range with a central entrance set in an advanced pedimented bay. The entrance has a rusticated door surround within a Doric pedimented case. During the conversion, flanking Palladian windows were added. The upper windows are two-pane sashes that have been renewed in their original openings. The central first-floor window is framed by a stone moulded architrave with a segmental pediment, while the other windows have channelled stone heads. The building also has stone angle quoins and a modillion eaves cornice, along with end wall and axial stacks.
In 1927, an office block was added to the right of the original structure, designed to be sympathetic to the original building. This extension is two stories tall and features a prominent first story with a large tripartite window beneath a pediment, adorned with terracotta relief work. The ground floor includes a smaller tripartite window and flanking two-pane sashes. The new office block is connected to the original building by a narrow segmentally-pedimented bay that has a single narrow sash window on each floor. An identical addition mirrors this on the left side of the original building.
