Description
No. 187 Redlam is a house built around 1812. It features Flemish bond brickwork with stone detailing and has a pitched Welsh slate roof with a gable end stack. The building has a rectangular plan and a symmetrical three-storey facade with a basement. The entrance is in the central bay, accessed by six stone steps from the street, which are flanked by part of the original front wall, railings, and step railing made of wrought iron, all included in the listing. The entrance has a six-panel original door beneath an altered fan light, set in a plain stone frame within a simple square-headed porch. This porch has Doric columns on square bases attached to a recessed brick surround. All the windows have been altered and feature stone sills and wedge lintels. The interior has not been inspected. The house was built for James Wilcock, a local calico manufacturer, and there was a warehouse located at the rear.
