Description
A terrace of six red brick houses, numbered 1 to 7, was built after circa 1855 in Westoe. The houses are two storeys high with slate roofs, and the terrace is terminated at each end by a two-storey wooden bay window. Most windows have stone surrounds. The entrances are framed by a moulded stone architrave, except for number 1, which features a projecting Corinthian portico. Dormer windows with segmental heads are present over numbers 2 to 6. Number 1 is four bays wide, while numbers 2 to 6 are three bays wide, and number 7 is two bays wide. The windows at numbers 3, 4, and 5 have been re-glazed; the others retain their original undivided sashes. A stone plaque inscribed "Wood Terrace" is affixed at first floor level of number 1. The terrace is named after the Wood family, who owned the estate. A plan from circa 1855, attributed to architect Mark Thompson, depicts the layout of building plots for Wood Terrace (initially unnamed). The houses were recorded in the 1861 Census Enumerators' Return.
