Description
Bede's Well, located north of The Grange, is a well that was first mentioned in the "Brand History of Newcastle" published in 1789. The current brick wall surrounding the well was constructed in 1981. Cleaning of the site has revealed a rectangular, stepped stone enclosure. Local tradition connects the well with the Venerable Bede. Further references to the well can be found in "Archaeologia Aeliana" and the "Proceedings of the Society of Antiquaries of Newcastle."
