Description
The stable and carriage shed located south of Bleak Hope House dates from the early 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared sandstone with ashlar dressings and quoins, topped with a Welsh slate roof featuring flat stone gable coping on curved kneelers. The building has two low storeys and three bays. The central vehicle entrance is elliptical-headed and has voussoirs, while a boarded door to the right includes a five-pane overlight. To the left, there is a sash window with a projecting stone sill, both having flat stone lintels. The three openings to the left also feature similar lintels, with the central one having glazing bars, and all openings have stop-chamfered alternate-block jambs. An eaves band runs along the top. The serpentine walls to the left project forward and have round coping, with two square central gate piers that have rounded coping on slabs. This structure is listed for its group value with Bleak Hope House.
