Description
Nos. 1-5 Northumberland Place are five houses, now used as offices, built before 1811 with 20th-century alterations. The buildings are constructed of brick with ashlar dressings, rusticated quoins, and rendered basements, with No. 4 featuring painted rough render. They have a Welsh slate roof and consist of a basement and two storeys, with each house having three bays, including two bow projections at each end. The doors have fanlights and are set in open-pedimented Tuscan doorcases for Nos. 2, 4, and 5. No. 1 features an early 20th-century doorcase, while No. 3 has a mid-20th-century inserted shop. The windows have wedge stone lintels and are mostly sash, with some having been renewed with glazing bars. Notable features include curved glass in the first floor of No. 1 and the basement of No. 5, as well as narrow end pilasters and a quasi-triglyph frieze on No. 4. The buildings have a hipped roof, and Nos. 1 and 3 are included partly for their group value.
