Description
The Chevron is a block of flats built between 1974 and 1976 by Ralph Erskine's Arkitektkontor, with Vernon Gracie as the site architect and structural engineering by White, Young and Partners. The building features pale metric modular brick and an internal block work frame, complemented by green timber balconies. It has long sloping blue metal roofs supported on plywood box beam purlins and consists of two to four storeys arranged in an 'L'-shaped plan. The windows are timber with aluminium opening lights, and the doors are red. There is an attached porch and garages for the meeting hall. The interiors have not been inspected. The Chevron is a notable landmark that signifies the boundary between the Kendal Street and Gordon Road sections of the Byker estate.
