Description

Adam of Jesmond's Camera is a tower house built before 1267, likely becoming empty by the 17th century. It was repaired in 1897 by W. H. Knowles. The structure is made of sandstone rubble, featuring a plinth and quoins. The north and east walls remain intact up to the first floor. A high pointed arch in the north wall has been restored with alternate-block jambs, and a large window above it still has its drip mould. There is a square corner turret on the right, and the left (east) side, built into a bank, has a round-headed opening at the first floor. Historically, the building was given to Newcastle by Lord Armstrong as part of Armstrong Park in 1879.
