Description

Woodbine Terrace, numbers 4 to 18, dates from 1838 and shortly thereafter. It is an irregular terrace built primarily of coursed squared stone with quoins, though some sections are of brick. The roofs are covered with Welsh slate. The terrace is two storeys high, with two windows per property, and some have basements. Most properties feature sash windows, with some later dormers added. Numbers 4, 5, and 6 are constructed of stone. Number 5 has a six-panel door, while number 6 features an added bay window and modern glazing. Number 7 is of ashlar with modern glazing and a pilaster-and-entablature door surround. Numbers 8, 9, 10, and 11 are brick with stone dressings, including a frieze, bands, window dressings, and base-ments. They have segment-headed door recesses and fanlights. Numbers 8 and 9 have well-preserved eight-panel doors. Numbers 12, 13, and 14 are stone; number 13 has an additional storey. These properties have pilaster-and-entablature surrounds to modern doors. Number 12 has modern glazing, and number 14 has a later canted bay, along with a patterned fanlight. Number 15 is brick with stone dressings, including basement details, bands, a frieze, eaves cornice, window cills and lintels, and a pilaster-and-entablature door surround featuring a key pattern. This property has an eight-panel door leading up five stone steps with a wrought iron handrail. Numbers 16, 17, and 18 are stone with heavy lintels and slightly projecting cills, and include six-panel doors with oblong fanlights in flush stone surrounds. Number 16 has a later added canted bay. The terrace is partly included in the listing for group value considerations.
