Description
No. 108 High Street is a fine mid-18th century house with early 19th century extensions to the east. The building has two storeys and features five closely spaced glazing bar sash windows on the front. It is constructed of red brick with pale headers and has 14-inch brick flat arches. The roof is hipped and covered with pantiles, and there is a parapet with a flat coping on the road-facing side only.
The house has a prominent central pilastered doorpiece, which includes a Doric frieze and pediment, and a six-panel door with a rectangular light above it. The south front appears irregular due to later additions and alterations, displaying a window arrangement of 1 + 1 + 2 + 3, which includes a Venetian window at landing level above the doorway. To the right, there are three dormers, two of which are half-dormers, and an oriel window on the first floor.
On the north wall, there is a Sun Fire Insurance Mark numbered 254044, which was taken out by Captain Jackson on February 4, 1768, for a value of £600.
