Description

A memorial to Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee of 1897, situated on Ormesby Church Lane. The memorial is constructed from Portland stone, standing on sandstone steps. It features an Ionic column with a twist-fluted shaft, supported by a pulvinated pedestal. The east face of the pedestal is carved with the Royal Arms and motto. Three steps lead up to the pedestal. A plain cross finial was added in 1967, replacing an original lamp which is now missing. An inscription on the west face of the pedestal states that the lamp was erected to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria by Elizabeth Caroline Brown of Ormesby House in 1897. An inscription on the north face notes the memorial’s relocation in 1967 from its previous location on High Street.
