Description
This is a churchyard memorial located about 30 yards south of the Church of St. Mary, built in 1862. It is made of ashlar stone and features an obelisk on a plinth. The memorial is inscribed with a tribute to Isaac Jackson of Wylam, describing him as a man of singular integrity and simplicity of character, as well as great mechanical ingenuity. A lead plate on the right side notes that he was the original inventor of the double 3-legged gravity escapement made for a clock for Robert Stephenson in 1857. The memorial is included in the register mainly for its historical interest.
