Description

This barn, located 40 metres north of Chare Head Farmhouse, dates back to 1729 and features the initials JE, which stand for Joseph Eggleston, on its lintel. The structure is built from coursed rubble with cut dressings and has a Welsh slate roof. The west elevation includes a boarded door set in a chamfered block surround, along with a dated lintel. The left gable is coped and has moulded kneelers. The north side of the barn displays slit vents, while the rear elevation features a raised boarded door in a chamfered surround, flanked by small windows with timber lintels and additional slit vents. There are attached 19th-century farm buildings to the south, but these are not of interest.
