Description
Low Engine Cottage is a building that was originally a miners' shop and is now a house. It likely dates from the late 18th century and has been enlarged in the 19th century and again in the later 20th century. The structure is built of rubble and features a Welsh slate roof with brick stacks.
The south elevation has two storeys and consists of two bays. There is a central doorway that is set within a 20th-century glazed porch, flanked by renewed 12-pane sash windows. Above, there are 12-pane and 16-pane sash windows, with the latter situated under a renewed lintel. The gable is coped and has end stacks. The 20th-century additions to the right and rear are not of interest.
The cottage is included in the heritage register for its historic significance.
