Description

South Cottage is a cottage dating from the second quarter of the 19th century, situated in Broomley, near Stocksfield. It is constructed of coursed rubble with tooled-and-margined quoins and dressings, and has a slate roof. The cottage is one storey and four bays, with an irregular arrangement. A boarded door with a five-pane overlight is located in the third bay. To the left of the door are two sixteen-pane sash windows, and to the right is a small inserted window and a nine-pane casement. The original window openings have chamfered alternating-block surrounds with slightly-projecting sills. The roof is hipped with a stepped and corniced ridge stack.
