Description
The game larder, located approximately 20 yards west of Roddam Hall, dates from around 1780 to 1790. It is constructed of ashlar stone on three sides, with rubble on the fourth side. The roof is made of Scottish stone and features lead ridge caps and a concave conical lead cap, topped with a pheasant weather vane. The front of the building displays a quatrefoil design with a raised surround.
Inside, the larder is well preserved, featuring a central roof-post and radiating beams that serve as tie beams and support hooks for hanging game. The roof-post and a circular table around it are held up by stone brackets, which elevate the table off the floor to prevent dampness.
