Description

The gateway to the stable block of Roddam Hall is a late 18th-century structure, likely designed by Vincent Shepherd, who was the estate architect for the Duke of Northumberland. Constructed from ashlar stone, it features a castellated Gothick style. The entrance has a segmental arch that is flanked by two quasi-towers, each topped with two higher turrets, which help to screen the buildings behind. Each tower includes a pointed window with a dripstone and Y-tracery glazing bars, as well as a blank quatrefoil in a raised surround located below the parapet of each turret. The buildings attached to the rear are not of special interest.
