Description
Selby House is a house dated 1728, featuring the initials I A on the lintel of the rear door. It was extended to the rear around 1900. The building is constructed of squared stone with cut dressings and has a Scottish slate roof. It stands two storeys high and has three slightly irregular bays. The exterior includes a plinth and sill bands. There are three steps leading up to a right-of-centre four-panel door with a plain overlight, set in a moulded stone surround topped with a gabled hood supported by consoles. The house has sash windows, which have lost their glazing bars, located in raised stone surrounds. The gables are coped with moulded kneelers, and there are corniced stacks at the ends. The rear elevation features three gables, with the recessed centre part showcasing a broad segmental arch on the ground floor and re-set earlier 19th-century sash windows.
Inside, the central lobby contains a stone stair with a late 19th-century balustrade, while the original fireplaces have been boarded over.
