Description

The Church of All Saints is a parish church built in 1879 by F.R. Wilson of Alnwick. It is constructed from snecked stone with ashlar dressings and features a Welsh slate roof, showcasing a Decorated style. The church comprises a nave, chancel, a west bellcote, and a north vestry.

The west bellcote tower is inspired by St. Mary on Holy Island and includes two large buttresses that are connected by a high pointed arch. This arch leads to a square bellcote or tower with paired cusped bell openings and is topped with a pyramidal roof featuring a vane. The west door is positioned between the buttresses.

The nave consists of three bays. To the left, there is a door with a pointed arch, flanked by pilasters and set beneath the projecting continuation of the main roof. Both the nave and chancel are adorned with arched two-light windows, with buttresses featuring offsets in between. The east window is a grand five-light design.

Inside, the church has clear glass windows with decorative lead glazing. The chancel arch is double-chamfered, with responds that have colonettes topped with waterleaf capitals. The interior also features a hammerbeam roof and contemporary gas fittings. A plaque in the porch commemorates a financial contribution from the Incorporated Society for the Building of Churches towards the construction of the church in 1879.
