Description

The Old Schoolhouse is a house, originally built as a school and schoolmaster's house, dating from 1843. It is constructed of ashlar stone with a Welsh slate roof and has an L-shaped layout. The building is in the Tudor style and comprises two bays. The cross-gabled former schoolroom projects to the left and is one tall storey high; the house to the right is one-and-a-half storeys high. A canted porch with cornicing, situated in the re-entrant angle, has a 20th-century panelled door in two leaves. To the left of the porch is a large, three-light mullioned window with a transom and a hoodmould. To the right is a two-light mullioned window with a hoodmould on the ground floor, and a two-light window in a gabled half-dormer above. The gabled roof features kneelers and ridged coping, with ball finials on the schoolroom. A corniced right end stack has three conjoined shafts. The building has group value.
