Description

This listing describes a pair of Turnbull headstones located about 20 yards south of the chancel of the Church of St. Michael in Alwinton. The first headstone is for John Turnbull, dated 1722. It is a small tablet featuring a segmental-arched top with a moulded edge. The east side has pronounced carving, depicting an angel above and a skull and crossbones below, with an inscription on the rear. The second headstone commemorates the daughter of Robert Turnbull, dated 1742. It has a segmental pedimented top with an angel carving and an inscription below.
