Description
Alwinton Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 18th century, which was remodelled in the early 19th century. It features scored stucco and a Welsh slate roof, with ashlar chimneys. Originally designed as a cross-passage house with service accommodation on the right, it has been altered to an L-plan layout that includes a single-storey lean-to in the re-entrant angle.
The façade includes a six-panelled door with a four-pane overlight in the third bay, framed by plain pilasters and a cornice supported by elaborate stone brackets. The building has four-pane sash windows set in raised surrounds, which vary slightly in size, and narrow angle pilaster strips. The lean-to projects slightly on the left side, creating an extra bay with two small 16-pane sash windows.
The roof is gabled with flat coping and features two end stacks and one ridge stack.
Inside, there is an early 19th-century staircase with stick balusters and a turned newel. The interior also includes six-panelled doors and shutters, as well as two fireplaces on the first floor that have early 19th-century surrounds with fluted friezes.
