Description
Garden House with an attached outbuilding to the north, built in the early 19th century and remodelled in 1885. The structure is made of tooled stone with raised ashlar quoins and dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof. It has an L-plan layout, with the outbuilding located at the end of the rear wing.
The south elevation features two storeys and three symmetrical bays. The central entrance consists of a 4-panel door with a plain overlight, set in a moulded surround with a hood supported by moulded brackets. The ground floor has 3-light mullioned windows with hoodmoulds, while the upper floor features 2-light windows; all have hollow-chamfered surrounds and 4-pane sashes. The eaves cornice is adorned with chamfered dentils and ornamental brackets flanking the heads of the upper windows. The gables are coped with moulded kneelers, and there are ridge and right end stacks with conjoined octagonal shafts and moulded caps, along with a ball finial on the left end.
The left return displays a 2-bay rear wing with similar fenestration, except for a late 19th-century gabled projection on the far left that has 6-pane sashes. The right return features a loggia supported by cast iron columns with leafy capitals. The rear elevation reveals a two-storey outbuilding with a sliding door, a boarded door, two part-slatted upper windows, and paired brackets at the eaves.
This building is included for its group value.
