Description

The stableyard buildings and attached wall to the north of High Buston House date from the late 18th century. They are constructed from good-quality squared stone and feature Welsh slate roofs, except for the south range, which has synthetic blue slates. The buildings form a square yard, with an opening at the south end of the west range. The south range is two storeys high, while the other parts are single-storey, except for the two-storey end sections of the north range.

The south elevation of the south range has two storeys and is arranged in a symmetrical pattern of two, one, and two bays. The slightly projecting central bay features an open-pediment and boarded double doors. The windows are 16-pane sash windows, with 8-pane short sashes above, all having slightly projecting sills. The roof is hipped. The attached wall at the right end returns south to join the north-east corner of the house and stands 1.5 metres high, featuring a central gateway with monolithic pyramid-capped piers. The right return shows a blind window with an 8-pane short sash above, while the left return has boarded and slatted windows on the first floor. At the rear, there is a boarded door and five loft windows.

The east range includes two stable doors and four slit vents, with two blind windows at the rear. The shorter west range has late 19th-century middens built against its inner face and a hip-ended roof. The north range features a central pair of segmental arches on a round pier and responds. The two-storey part on the left end has a boarded door and an external stone stair leading to a boarded loft door on the outer return. The two-storey part on the right end has a boarded door at the rear. Both end sections have pyramidal roofs and windows at the rear.
