Description
The Police Station and Police House, built in 1850 and enlarged in 1887, is constructed of ashlar stone with a Welsh slate roof and features a double span design. It stands two storeys high and has three bays, with a lower one-bay wing on the right. The building has a plinth and three steps leading up to a central door, which has four vertical panels and heavy iron studs, topped by a diamond-paned overlight. The door is framed by a Tudor-arched, double-chamfered surround with a hoodmould.
On the ground floor, there are two-light mullioned windows with hoodmoulds, while the first floor features similar but taller windows with diamond-paned casements. The one-bay wing on the right has similar detailing. The building is topped with a stone cornice-gutter and a gabled roof that has ridged coping and kneelers. In the valley between the front and rear spans, there are four tall, corniced chimneys set diagonally.
On the left side, there are external stone steps leading to a similar door that provides access to a courtroom on the first floor. Inside, there are massive iron-clad doors leading to the cells.
