Description
East Lodge and gateway to Preston Tower is a gatepiers, screenwalls, and lodge built in 1866. It is constructed of ashlar stone with a Welsh slate roof.
The structure features tall square corniced piers adorned with acanthus friezes and pyramidal caps, flanked by lower similar piers with plain friezes. The low quadrant walls have a plinth with bold horizontal tooling and a balustraded parapet, along with moulded coping and similar end piers.
To the right, the single-storey, three-bay lodge has a central 20th-century door set within a surround that includes pilasters and a high semicircular pediment. This pediment is inscribed with the date and features a squirrel, which is the crest of the Baker Cresswells. The lodge has 20th-century windows in the original openings and a gabled roof with kneelers, ridged coping, and ball finials. It also has a tall corniced ridge stack with diagonally-set conjoined shafts. The lodge is included for its group value.
