Description
The carriage house and loose boxes, built in 1805 for John Smart, are located to the north of Trewhitt Hall. Constructed from ashlar stone, the building features a graduated Lakeland slate roof and is designed in an L-plan over two storeys.
On the left side, closest to the main house, there are two carriage houses with double doors; one has a segmental head while the other features a flat lintel. Above these, there are slatted windows for the granary. The projecting wing on the right has a stable-type door with a segmental head and a renewed 9-pane sash window. The roof is gabled, and there is a window at the rear with the inscription 'cheese room' on its lintel.
