Description
The Bridgekeeper's House, located approximately 44 meters southwest of the Transporter Bridge on Ferry Road in Middlesbrough, was built in 1911 by G.C. Imbault of Cleveland Bridge and Engineering Co. Ltd. and constructed by Sir William Arroll & Co. Ltd. This building is made of red engineering brick and features a Welsh slate roof. It is two storeys tall with one window. The entrance has a boarded door with an overlight, set under a concrete lintel on the right side. The windows have altered glazing and are topped with concrete lintels and sills. A chamfered corner on the left side displays a bronze tablet commemorating the opening of the bridge by Prince Arthur of Connaught in 1911, located on the ground floor. Above, on the first floor, there is a clock face beneath a short embattled parapet. The left return of the building has a similar two-bay design, while the right return has a one-bay design. This house is included for its group value with the Transporter Bridge.
