Description

The War Memorial in Victory Square, built in 1923 by George J. Coombs from Aberdeen, is made of pale grey Aberdeen granite and bronze. It features a five-stepped terrace with corner plinths. The long base has a cyma-moulded plinth and top cornice, which supports bronze plaques displaying the names of those who fell in the two World Wars on both the back and front. This base flanks a stepped pedestal that supports a tall shaft with a coved cornice and a bronze wreath at the top. An inserted panel in the pedestal indicates the dates of the wars, and additional bronze wreaths are also present on the pedestal.
