Description
Nos. 55 and 57 in Low Coniscliffe are a pair of houses that were originally a farmhouse with a cottage to the right. They date from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The buildings are constructed of roughcast brick and rubble, topped with a pantiled roof and featuring brick chimney stacks. They stand two storeys high and have three windows. The original doors have been replaced and are situated on either side of a central window. The windows are 4-pane sashes that were added in the 19th century. There are three projecting brick courses at the eaves, and the roof has tiled verges with a continuous design. The end and ridge stacks have been rebuilt. There are also 20th-century rear additions that are not of special interest.
