Description

Wheldon House is a house dated to the 17th century, possibly 1726, as indicated on the door lintel, with mid-19th century additions. It is constructed of dressed and squared stone, topped with a Welsh slate roof and features brick chimney stacks. The house has two storeys and three windows, comprising two distinct builds, with a straight joint to the left of the door. It has flush quoins and an off-centre replaced door set in a chamfered stone surround, which is topped by a gabled wood hood. The lintel above the door is inscribed with "17 A," although the remainder is illegible. There is a 20th-century glazed door located at the far left. The windows are replaced 12-pane sashes with projecting sills, and the ground floor windows have 20th-century louvred shutters. The steeply-pitched roof features coped gables, shaped kneelers, and a 20th-century gabled dormer. There are left end and ridge stacks with moulded stone bands, while the right end stack has been rebuilt. Additionally, there is a two-storey, two-bay 19th-century wing at the left rear.
