Description

The ice-house located east of Eastwood, part of Urpeth Hall, dates from the early 19th century. It is situated beneath a tree-covered mound and features a brick-lined passage and an ice-well with a stone outer doorway.

Access is gained by descending two steps to a square-headed, rock-faced doorway. Inside, a short L-plan passage with a segmental barrel vault leads to a boarded door, which opens into a large, sunken cylindrical ice-well characterized by elongated side walls. This ice-house is a large and well-preserved example of its kind.
