Description
Sandy Carr Farmhouse is a house and barn dating to the early 18th century, situated just off the B6296 near Wolsingham. The building is constructed of sandstone rubble with quoins and ashlar dressings, topped with a stone-flagged roof and yellow brick chimneys.
The main house is two storeys high with three bays, the third bay being wider. A pent roof extension is situated at each end. A renewed door, partly glazed and set within a raised stone surround, is located in the second bay. Late 19th-century sash windows are set within similar raised stone surrounds in the first bay and above the door. To the right, the barn has raised stone surrounds to a central door and a first-floor door (the upper door being positioned on the right side). A small ground-floor window is present under a flat stone lintel, and a first-floor ventilation slit is also visible. A Dutch door is located under a flat stone lintel in the right-hand extension, while the left-hand extension is blank. A chimney is located at the left end of the building.
The right return gable features three vent slits and an owl hole with a stone shelf. Both gables display reverse crow steps. A rear section steps at right angles to the loft door.
Inside, a stone fire lintel is present, alongside raised fielded four-panel doors with 'L' hinges.
