Description

The Nest is a house, likely built as a verger's cottage in 1779, as indicated by a date on the door lintel. It is constructed from coursed rubble with roughly-tooled quoins and cut stone dressings. The roof is largely red tile, with stone slates to the eaves, and has brick stacks, with the left stack being partly rebuilt. The left-hand section of the roof also features late 20th-century pantiles with matching eaves. The front of the house features a central 4-panel door with a 3-pane overlight, flanked by renewed 12-pane sash windows. Above these are 9-pane casement windows. All windows and the door have lintels dressed to resemble voussoirs, and slightly-projecting sills. The ridge has gable coping while the ends have stacks. The lower left bay has two 12-pane casements with a 16-pane casement above.

Inside, the 2-panel doors have panels with clipped corners and raised beading. The parlour fireplace has a wooden surround with carved ornament, and a cupboard beside it with doors on axe-head hinges.
