Description

Langley Hall is a historic building located on Langley Lane, dating from the early 16th century and originally built for Henry Lord Scrope, whose family had owned the manor prior to that time. The structure is made of large sandstone blocks with ashlar dressings and was roofless at the time of the survey. The original layout likely consisted of three ranges surrounding a courtyard, although only fragments of the building remain, with some parts reaching two storeys high.

The north range has mostly collapsed, but the first floor features a corbelled parapet on the east side, and the interior shows remnants of a corbelled fire-hood. The south range stands at two storeys and consists of five bays. The side facing the yard includes a doorway in the second bay with a chamfered Tudor-arched head, flanked by rectangular lights, and three larger lights above with hollow chamfers. There is also evidence of an external stair at the west end leading to a door adorned with armorial shields in its surrounds. Inside this range, there are fragments of a first-floor fireplace, suggesting it may have been the location of the first-floor hall.

Langley Hall is also recognized as a scheduled ancient monument.
