Description
The gate piers, walls, and privies at Methold Houses were built in 1863 for John Eden and are constructed from dressed sandstone. The walls, which are 1.5 to 2.0 metres high, feature low triangular-section coping and enclose the grounds of Methold Houses. The design includes a rounded north-west corner and a driveway near the north-east corner, with short serpentine sections leading to a pair of gate piers in the west wall.
The tall, square-plan gate piers have chamfered corners with bar stops and moulded pyramidal caps. Each pier has sunk inscribed plaques, with "METHOLD HOUSES" on the north pier and "ERECTED 1863" on the south pier. There are four detached privies spaced regularly along the rear (east) wall. Each privy has two boarded doors beneath flush lintels and a flat-coped parapet that conceals a pent roof.
These structures are included for their group value, although altered stone sheds and later lean-to additions on the privies are not considered of special interest.
