Description
The wall, trough, and horse-wash located south of Beamish Home Farm date back to the early 19th century. Constructed from coursed squared rubble, the wall stands about 1.5 meters high and features a half-round coping that curves from the farmyard gate, running almost parallel to the road. At the north end, two retaining walls slope down from the road into the grass verge towards a bend in the field wall at the south. A wide stone trough at the end of the field wall is supplied by a stone drain within the wall and can be accessed via a ramp situated between the retaining walls. The coping of the field wall ramps down along the south side of the trough, and steps at the south end of the trough lead up to a paved surface.
