Description
Granary Cottage and the adjoining farm buildings of Bradley Burn farmhouse are a cart shed, barns, and byres, with the cart shed now converted into a house. They date from the late 18th century to early 19th century and are constructed of coursed squared sandstone rubble with yellow brick and ashlar dressings, topped with a Welsh slate roof featuring red ridge tiles. The buildings are arranged in three ranges around a courtyard, with the farmhouse forming the south side adjacent to the east range and leaving an entrance at the west end.
The west range is two storeys high and has three bays. The first two bays feature elliptical brick arches on alternate-block jambs, which are now blocked, with a door and window inserted. Above these, there are two inserted casements with brick lintels and projecting brick sills. The third bay has a blocked door under a flat stone lintel. The rear of this section has a bank first-floor entry with a Dutch door under a flat stone lintel and slit vents. The north gable includes a squint vent slit in the gable peak.
The north range is also two storeys and has three bays, featuring 20th-century sliding vehicle doors on the left and two boarded pitching holes above on the right, both with flat stone lintels and flat stone sills.
The east range is two storeys high and has two bays, connecting to the rear wing of the farmhouse. It contains two small square windows under thin wood lintels.
These buildings are included for their group value.
