Description
No. 11 Market Place, formerly known as No. 18 Castle Square, is a house dating from the early 18th century, possibly incorporating earlier elements. It features a pebble-dash render and a roof covered with French roof tiles, complemented by 19th-century yellow brick chimneys. The building is two storeys high with three windows. The central entrance consists of a six-panel door with a plain overlight, set in plain wood jambs and a lintel. On either side of the door and on the first floor, there are 16-pane sash windows with thin tile sills. Wrought-iron brackets support the eaves gutter. The roof is steeply pitched, with a larger chimney on the right and a smaller one on the left. The right side of the building has a low gabled wing with swept eaves and a rendered chimney, also raised in yellow brick. This property is part of a significant group that includes the Castle gateway.
